Sticking to the tried and true

There's that old saying -- "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."  I prefer -- "Why mess with a what works?"

A few years ago, I decided to get dedicated to losing weight.  I joined Weight Watchers because other friends were having success, and - lo and behold - it worked for me too.  I lost 25 lbs. in three months and was just 15 lbs. from my goal weight.

And I quit.

Why?

I decided I didn't like spending money on what I could surely do on my own.  I mean, really, just like the contestants on "The Biggest Loser," I believed I had learned enough to sustain the weight loss on my own.  I tried just monitoring what I was eating, and I tried other calorie counters.  Before long, my weight had crept back up, almost undoing my previous loss.

*sigh*

I've been holding steady at one weight for a few months now, and I want to change that.  So, I jumped back on Weight Watchers yesterday. Two friends have had tremendous results with it, so I decided it was time for me to go back to what worked.

We'll see how this round goes. I'm really afraid of falling into a food rut.  There are only so many Smart Ones and Lean Cuisine meals you can eat.  I may have to do some more wandering into the WW message boards.

By the way, I am still doing the "30 Day Shred" with my #shredcrew.  I feel like I may be stuck on Level 2 forever though.  It doesn't seem to be getting any easier.  Yesterday, I couldn't find my "Shred" DVD, so I did "The Biggest Loser Last Chance Workout" instead.  It had pretty similar intensity, so I think it was a justifiable substitute.  I may start mixing that in with the "Shred" and running (as soon as the weather shapes up).

I'm anxious to see what kind of results all of this produces.

  1. I think WW is a great program! Hungry Girl has some great books with WW recipes in it. You might try those. And there are lot of new Smart Ones that I actually kind of enjoy!! Gina's Skinny recipes is a good source too. Now I just need to do all this too so I can get my butt in gear with you!!

  2. Micah, as you know, I've had a lot of success with WW. The new PP+ program is soooo much better than the old points program. Message me if you need any recipe ideas. Also, SmartOnes are a tool, not a crutch.

  3. Also, start telling yourself that you are a Weight Watcher instead of saying you are doing Weight Watchers. Seems like simple semantics, but this really makes you internalize the program as a lifestyle change versus a diet.

  4. Danielle - Thanks for those tips. I love Hungry Girl. I need a few more of her cookbooks.

Jaci - You are one of the reasons I'm getting back on WW. Er, becoming a Weight Watcher. Semantics do make a difference sometimes. Thanks!
