Book Review - "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)"
Confession: I have never watched "The Office." Not a single episode. I know I would probably enjoy it, but I just haven't tuned in. Probably because I know I would love it, and I do not need another TV addiction.
If I was a fan of "The Office," I probably would have enjoyed Mindy Kaling's book even more. Although I'm not sure how that's possible. I absolutely loved it. This selection was the perfect companion for a recent road trip.
I laughed out loud so many times I lost count. I immediately related to her definition of various types of friends and her constant struggle with body image. I liked the various lists that popped up throughout the book, especially the ones for her show ideas. I feel like she probably has lists everywhere, and I can definitely relate to that. The section on her funeral plans and eulogy was fantastic. Morbid, but completely entertaining. I may start outlining plans for my own funeral for the very reasons she listed -- your friends and loved ones are (hopefully) so overcome with grief, they can't think straight.
Mindy is not only funny, but she has a great way of telling stories and relating her life in a way that doesn't sound like a laundry list or a brag book. But she has plenty to brag about. She has an impressive resume, and I think I appreciate it more after hearing how she worked to get to this point. Maybe I'll watch "The Office" someday. Just for her.
After reading (or listening to) this book, I've decided it would be awesome to hang out with her. Can anyone make that happen? No? Well, I thought I'd try.
If you're looking for something funny to keep you company on your commute, road trip or run (I know some people who love listening to books when they run), you should definitely pick this one up.

I have been wanting to read this book! I do watch the office, but stopped after Steve Carrell left the show. I read Tina Fey's Bossypants and loved it, although I have never watched the show 30 Rock.
