It can happen to anyone

It allegedly happened to Justin Timberlake.
It happened to Jennifer Aniston.
It happened to Sandra Bullock.
And now it's happened to Robert Pattinson.

Of course, I'm talking about infidelity.
Each of these people has been cheated on.

My Twitter and facebook feeds have been buzzing with news of Kristen Stewart's affair with her married director. Most of the people are making jokes about K Stew. I honestly don't know why she needed to issue a public apology for something that doesn't affect the public.  I never really bought their relationship anyway.  But I digress.

Quite a few females I know are saying, "How could she do that to Edward?" First of all, that's a character, so he's not real.  Second of all, what is it about Robert Pattinson that would make him immune to infidelity?

I know some fabulous people (non-celebrities) who have been cheated on.  They are beautiful/handsome. They are smart.  They are kind and giving. They are fun.  And they've been cheated on.  It just goes to show that no matter how much you have going for you, you are still susceptible to deception and heartbreak.

And that, my friends, is scary to me.

It's never happened to me, but I definitely think about it. A lot. I am terrified that I will find someone I like, fall in love with them and let them see a side of me very few people have the privilege of seeing. They'll get along with my family and my friends.  I'll be really comfortable around them, and secure enough to be my true self.

And then --- BAM --- they'll cheat on me.

And my heart will shatter.

I don't know if I could recover from that.

It's true no one has ever died from a broken heart, but I'm still not eager to feel that kind of pain and devastation anytime soon.  I've survived a few breaks and bruises, but each time, it's a little harder to recover.

How does someone bounce back after being cheated on?

Well, Justin wrote a song about it.

...
Jen has gone on to date some really beautiful men.
...

Sandra adopted a little boy.

...

We'll have to wait and see on RPatz.
I'm sure he'll have no shortage of girls waiting to comfort him.
(I'm not in that line, but I know a few people who would be.)

...

So, maybe it's time to start letting go of some of my fears and insecurities in relationships.
I might get hurt, but I'm strong enough to bounce back, right?
I may not have the money or fame that these celebs have, but if they can recover, so can I.

  1. Being cheated on in the past never stopped me from starting a new relationship. It may have made me a little more neurotic at times (because I then knew I wasn't immune to it), but it's important to remember that everyone's different. As for RPatz and KStew? I will make fun of her for more than this, and I really don't see what is so alluring about him.
I think Jennifer Anniston has done a great job of showing the world who's boss.

  2. It's happened to me. And it sucked, it really sucked. But it just made me realize that he was not who I needed in my life. And I feel like it was good to find out when I did, ya know? And I survived it.

  3. Being cheated on is YES absolutely devastating BUT it cannot hold us back from feeling the AMAZING feeling of being in love! I've been cheated on & when I was younger have done the cheating(so not proud of myself) & R Patz will do just fine & so would you & so did I! I think she released a statement because she wanted to send a BIGGER message to him, maybe for him to know how really "SORRY" she is....

  4. It can happen to anyone! I love how you pointed out people keep saying Edward... like hello people... they are not what you see in the movie?! hahaha oh man.

Love is taking a chance, but it is worth it. I think it is worth it even when it doesn't work out. The pain you go through doesn't out shine the love you once shared with someone, and to say you loved someone?! amazing. its what life is about!
