What I've been watching

We've had some mega cold temperatures here in recent weeks.  We're talking 40 degrees below zero on one day.  Brrrr.  This kind of weather just makes me want to curl up and watch TV.

I don't have cable, which means I can't turn on the Food Network and watch five episodes of "Chopped" or a stream of home improvement shows on HGTV.  (Legitimately, those are the main networks I really miss now that I just have local channels.)

Thank goodness there's Netflix, which allows me to binge watch random shows and movies at my convenience.

Here's what I've watched recently:

[from IMDB]
This has been in my queue for a long time, but I knew I needed to be in the right mood for it.  I'm still not sure what the "right mood" is, but I did end up watching it.  So many emotions!  I cried. I got angry. I applauded. This movie makes me not want to have children for fear they will be bullied or -- worse -- bullies themselves.  How do we stop children from harassing each other to the point where they want to end their own lives?  I honestly believe it starts at home, where we teach our children to respect everyone even if we don't necessarily understand or like them.  *steps off soapbox*

This one has also been in my queue for a long time.  If you want something that's a polar opposite to "Bully," this is it.  Joe leaves his California home with no money and just a cameraman (whom he found on Craigslist).  He travels across the country and back, relying solely on Craigslist ads and the generosity of others.  Naturally, he meets some interesting people along the way. I could never do what he did, but I loved watching his journey.

I like Kristen Bell and the premise of this sounded interesting.  It's a very dark movie with lots of dialog and situations that might make people cringe.  But I thought it was an interesting look at the decisions of someone who hits a bump in life and isn't sure where else to go --- so she goes home.

I have such a girl crush on Anna Kendrick. I adore Jake Johnson.  And I'm a craft beer fan.  This movie should have been a favorite, right?  Not quite.  The characters are awkward, the dialog is awkward, and the relationships are really screwed up.  There's a lot of talking and not much action, so it's definitely not a movie for multitasking. Don't get me wrong, it was a good movie.  I just don't know if I need to see it again.

What have you been watching lately?
Anything I should add to my Netflix queue?

  1. I love Netflix....I just wish I had it in my bedroom so I could curl up under the covers instead of on the sofa. Stay warm!

  2. We were SO disappointed in the ending of Drinking Buddies. Like, couldn't believe it just ended.

We started Lifeguard, but didn't finish it. Try The Brass Teapot. We loved it.
