Type A fun

Not too long ago, I was chatting with one my library co-workers about my weekend. I told her I'd gone to see a musician and even told her how many times I'd seen that musician.

Her:  "How do you know that? Do you actually keep count?"
Me:  "Yeah, I have a word document where I keep track of all the concerts I've been to."
Her:  "I really shouldn't be surprised. You seem very Type A ... especially when it's things you do for fun."

Wait ... what??

I pondered her comment for the next few hours of my shift.  And, well, obviously beyond since I'm writing about it now a few weeks later. As I considered her assessment, I went through a list of things I enjoy and analyzed how I go about these hobbies. (Already, I can see where she might be onto something.)

Reading -- I have a goal of reading 70 books this year, including one memoir/biography, one classic, and one blog/friend recommendation each month.

Writing -- I schedule time to write (though not as much as I should lately).

Craft beer -- I use the Untappd app to keep track of and rate all the beers I try.

I'm also the girl who schedules hermit/introvert recovery time.

Hmm.

I've always known I wasn't very spontaneous. I like planning things out or at least knowing what's on the agenda.  It drives me crazy when people make vague plans and then don't fill me in on the what, where, and when. But I never really thought about how deliberate, detailed, and organized I am even about the fun things in my life.

I don't know if I would enjoy them at a different level if I was not so organized.  I'm not sure I would know how to even test this theory.  I guess it is what it is.

Is anyone else like this?

  1. I'm not spontaneous at all. All of my exercise and do nothing days are written down. LOL

  2. I am horrible at planning out/having things planned or knowing what I want to do to the point that I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing somedays. But on the other hand I keep a list of all the concerts I've seen, my movies/albums are alphabetically sorted, and I'm super uptight about how I store my pictures. I think we all have some Type A tendencies that display themselves in some way.

  3. I'm exactly like this. I love going out and having fun and attending everything I can, but it has to be planned. And I am always the planner among my friends. I buy the concert or game tix, I plan GNOs, I research vacation spots and itineraries. I was this way before kids too.

  4. I think there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with organizing and scheduling your fun. Especially with how busy you are. It's pretty much necessary! Spontaneity can be fun, but I know some people get really anxious when asked to drop everything to do something else.
