Closing on a house and moving was more of a time suck than I remembered from last time. Maybe because this time, it involved two people and their respective belongings. Merging households is so much more work than just moving your own stuff. It's been a good experience so far, but definitely exhausting. For the first two weeks, I would come home from work every day and then spend at least three hours unpacking, organizing, or cleaning something. Needless to say, I had no trouble sleeping. There are still evenings like that as I find something or some area of the house I don't like and I decide I need to change it right then.
My cats are enjoying being creepers on the stairs in the new house. |
In addition to moving, I'm trying to finish up edits on the next book in my baseball romance series. I had intended for the book to be out months ago, but it just didn't work that way. I slacked on editing. My cover designer was busy with other projects. I'm really excited about this story though. I think it's my favorite I've written so far. Then again, I feel like I say that each time I finish a book. That's a good sign, right? Really though, the characters are amazing and I have not yet gotten tired of re-reading their story. I'm hoping to get it out this spring.
For my final round of edits, I always print out the manuscript and go through it with a red pen. |
I'm working on being more forgiving of myself. I am my own worst critic and I often have too lofty of expectations for myself. When I fail, I get very upset and kind of tear myself apart. I need to stop that. Mistakes are going to happen, but I can't dwell on them. And it doesn't make me a bad person. I'll probably write something longer on this in the future.
What's new with you lately?
It's so hard to work, then come home and work on settling into a new house. It's a frantic pace for a while!
