For the past two days, I've had a minor irritation in my right eye. It's on the outside corner and I only feel it when I blink. It's not red, and really it's not even visible. But I can feel it. I have no idea what it is, so what did I do? That's right, I googled it. I found a number of possible diagnoses and treatments for my eye, including dunking my face in water and blinking several times and placing a tea bag on the eye. Already, the eye feels better.
Thank you internet.
That's not the first time I've gone to the net for help around the house. I've used it for recipes, making homemade cleaning products in a pinch and getting rid of a smell coming from my dishwasher. It's amazing. And a lifesaver. Okay, that might be pushing it. It's definitely a life-enhancer though.
What did we do for these problems before the internet? I suppose I could call Mom. She has all the answers, right? Sometimes I still call her, actually, but mostly, I just use my mouse and keyboard.
I scarcely remember life before the internet. And I'm not sure I would ever want to go back to it.
It's true, the internet has lead to some negative things -- less face-to-face communication, identity theft, online predators, WikiLeaks, etc. It's not perfect, but it's still pretty great.
I credit the internet for a great number of my friendships. I've been able to keep up with people and my favorite sports teams thanks to the world wide web. I've also discovered dozens of musicians I might not have found otherwise.
What's the funniest/most interesting way the internet has helped you?
