Life unexpected

This is my last Sunday in temporary housing. I could not be more excited about the prospect of spending next weekend in my new house. Emphasis on "my."

I still can't quite believe I'm buying my own place. For sure, this is not the life I had imagined for myself when I was a teenager. I figured I'd be an apartment-dweller until I got married and bought my first place with my husband. Of course, that was back when I thought I'd be married right out of college and have two or more kids by now. That's a scary thought. That life wouldn't have been right for me. It sounded good in theory, but I don't think I would have been happy.

God knew that, and that's why I am where I am today.

Thirty.
Single.
Buying my first house on my own.

This is the way my life is supposed to be. Had I followed the blueprint I scribbled in notes to friends back in high school, I never would have moved to Texas, thus never discovering many of the musicans I love today, the sport of baseball and the Texas Rangers or any of the friends who have come along with those discoveries. I would never have driven across country for a music festival (and then returned the following year). I would never have adopted my two cats. Most importantly, I would never have learned what I know about myself now --- things that can't quite be articulated, but are significant nonetheless.

This week is going to be a busy one of packing and preparing to move to the new place (which should be done Friday and Saturday), but I know it's going to be an exciting one too. I really need to savor this experience (even the ream of paperwork that comes along with it) because it's a big life moment. And it's all mine.

  3. This is so true. It is so inspiring to hear when someone is following 'their inner compass'... living the life that they know deep inside is right for them. Not the easy road by any means, but so much more fulfilling- on all levels.

Congratulations on buying a house on your own!! Truly an accomplishment.
