Sundress envy

My parents tell me I used to love to wear dresses and skirts when I was younger.  I'm not sure when that changed, but my closet does not reflect that at all.  I own a few dresses (bought specifically for weddings and other occasions) and maybe three skirts.  Lately, I've been drooling over sundresses I'm seeing everywhere -- online and in person -- wishing I could wear them.  Alas, my body is not made for these kinds of dresses, but I'll share them here anyway.

Afternoon Bubble Tea Dress @ ModCloth

I have really broad shoulders (maybe I should have gone out for football), and thin straps only accentuate this less-than-attractive feature.
Blue Tube Dress @ Maurices
Tube dresses are adorable on some people, and I love this color, but I have a feeling I would only look pregnant in this.  Also, I have a fear of sitting down and having the fabric slip down, causing me to accidentally flash everyone.  No one wants that.

Bloom Brightly @ ModCloth
Again, I love the colors on this one, and the waistline would probably be forgiving on me, but I'm afraid of the thin straps.

Country Casa @ ModCloth
This one looks so sweet and casual, but the thin straps and barely-structured waistline concern me.

I have serious envy for those who can pull off these dresses. I love them and would have every one of them (and more) in my closet if I felt like I could wear them well.  But I don't think I can.

By the way, does anyone want to guess my favorite clothing site?  Ha ha.

  1. You could always get a thin strapped dress and wear a little cardigan over it. I'm not a fan of strapless because I feel like they give just about everyone armpit boobs if they are cut straight across. But a little white cardigan would be super cute with all of those strapless dresses. PS I love ModCloth too!

  2. Sometimes it is best to remember that the idea of a flattering outfit is pretty oppressive and not very positive. I think you would look awesome in all of these, because you love them. Wear what you love, thats what I always say.

  3. BTW I alway wear a tank top under thin strapped dresses purely because I like to hide my bra straps. That alone can solve your thin strap issue and you can have awesome showing arms for summer! woo!
