17 days to go ...

There are less than three weeks left in this year. Crazy, huh?  I JUST got used to writing 2011 on everything, and now it's time to transition to 2012.  The last year of the earth, right?  Not sure I buy that theory, but OK.

As I'm sure I've mentioned on here (and will probably mention a lot in the next few weeks), New Year's Eve is my favorite holiday.  Logically, I know it's a change of the calendar year and nothing more.  But it always feels -- at least to me -- like the start of something new.  A clean slate.  I had an awesome 2011.  I'll be recapping that soon, but I'm already starting to think about my new goals for the new year.

I don't really make resolutions, but I do select three new things I want to do/try in the new year. Here were last year's goals:

1. Sing karaoke with the Brice girls
Every time I go somewhere with them for karaoke, they ask me to join in.  I have declined every time so far. Yet I've sung karaoke with other friends. So it's not really karaoke that intimidates me, it's that Julie and Kathleen are such good singers, I'm afraid of how awful I sound.  But it's time for me to realize that they are not the kind of friends who will judge me.  I've known them for 12 years and they haven't yet.  I just need to do it.  They'll probably never ask me again after I do. Ha ha.

2. Yoga

A lot of my friends do this and really seem to enjoy it. I think it'd be a great thing for fitness and relaxation. I even have a DVD on yoga, but I have yet to put it in the player. It's time to try it.

3.  Buy a drink for a cute guy

You don't know how many times I've been out, seen a guy I was interested in and had no idea how to approach him.  Alright, so most of the time, this is at my brother's bar, so the awkward quotient is raised.  But still.  I'm 30.  And I'm assertive in so many other areas of my life. I need to expand it to my love life.  It may lead to nothing, but at least I will have done it.

I finished two of three that I set for this year.  I still have a few weeks to get to that last item, but I'm not sure I'll really have an opportunity in that time.  So, two out of three isn't bad, right?  That's what Meatloaf said anyway.

I have no idea where to set the mark for 2012.   I already have so many plans.  Hmm ...

Do you set resolutions or goals?  Have you set yours for the new year?

  1. Those are great resolutions - I love the one about buying a dude a drink. Did it happen??

I don't usually make resolutions on NYE...too much pressure. I'm hoping 2012 is kind of awesome, though. It owes me for the slight suck-fest that was 2010 and 2011. ;)
