Sunday Social - Dreams, Fears and More

Yesterday, it looked like this outside:

And it looked like this inside:

Yes, we finally got some much-needed rain.  Probably not nearly enough, but it was good to see anyway.  And hear.  And smell.  I don't think I've ever been so happy to see rain clouds.

I didn't feel so bad being lazy all day.  Well, that depends on your definition of lazy.  I've been delaying proofreading my novel.  Mostly because I knew it would be a long process.  And I also felt like the longer I waited, the fresher my mind would be.  I finished writing it at the beginning of May and haven't looked at it since.  It's been interesting reading it now.  I'm falling in love with my lead male character all over again (I wish he was real), and I even cried a few times.  At my own writing.  Is that crazy?  Narcissistic?  Both?  Oh well.  I got through eight chapters yesterday and hope to make another big dent today.  I'm so close to having this ready to publish, I can almost smell the pages.

But before I can get to the proofreading, I wanted to get in on this week's Sunday Social!

Sunday Social

1. What is your dream job?
I would love to work on publications for the Texas Rangers -- doing interviews, working on programs and promotional materials.  I actually applied for the job a few years ago.  I knew there was not a chance in hell I'd get it, but when your dream job is open, you have to at least try, right?

I think I'm kind of glad I didn't get it though.  I fear I might not enjoy baseball as much if it was part of my job.

So I don't know if it's really my dream job anymore.

I'm pretty sure my new dream job would be to choose music for movies or TV shows.  I think I'd be pretty good at that.

2. If you had just won the lottery and didn't need to work for money, what would you do with your time?
Travel.  Undoubtedly. I've never left the country and there's a lot of the country I still want to see, so I'd be doing that in a hurry.  And also, there's that baseball thing.  You know the one where I want to visit every MLB ballpark.  I'm pretty sure I could do that with a little free time and lots of money.

3. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
First, I wanted to be a bus driver.  I thought it'd be cool to just "drive around all day."  Seriously, I thought that's what they did.  Then, I wanted to be a teacher just so I could write on the blackboard all day (yep, showing my age here).  And at some point, I realized I wanted to be a writer of some sort.  I didn't know what kind immediately, but I've pretty much always known the general direction I wanted to go.  And I've gotten there, and explored a few different areas of the communication field, so I figure I've done pretty good.

4. What piece career advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?
Don't expect to become a millionaire.
Read.  A lot.  If you're not reading, you can't write.
Always try to stay updated on the latest technology and social media.

5. Biggest Pet Peeves either in life or in blogging or at work.

In life -- People who don't say what they mean or mean what they say.

In blogging -- Bloggers who make "rules" about what other people should be blogging about.

At work -- People who change their mind about what they want.  And that's all I'm going to say.

6. Biggest Fears.
Driving next to semis.  I blame "Final Destination" for this one.

Coming home to my home being on fire or burglarized. The latter has happened, and the anxiety lingers.

Geese chasing me while I'm running. Seriously. Don't laugh. There are geese on my running path.  I always try to give them a wide berth, but I'm still terrified they'll chase me.

And now that you're all laughing at the mental image of me running away from aggressive geese, I think I'll get back to my proofreading.

Happy Sunday!

  1. Loving that you wanted to be a bus driver- that is awesome :)

I'm with you on annoying 'blogging rules'...it's your space and you should feel free to do what YOU want!

And I HATE geese...so them chasing me while I'm running would be a fear of mine too.

Fantastic read, as always my dear!
