Stress habits

As I've mentioned, I lost my job recently ... for the second time in seven months.  So my life is feeling a bit ... uncertain at the moment.

I'm stressed. I'm sad. I'm angry. I'm frustrated. I'm questioning my skills/abilities. I'm feeling really isolated from everything and everyone.

Sigh.

It's just not really much fun, contrary to what my #funemployment hashtag on twitter might convey.

Here are a few things I do when I'm feeling the way I'm feeling lately:

1.  I mess up my sleep schedule.
I stay up late (because why not?), and I sleep late (what's the point of getting up early?).
And usually I sleep for way more than eight hours a night.
Last Saturday, I took a three-hour nap.  I. Never. Nap.

2.  I go long periods without eating.
Some people are emotional eaters.  I'm an emotional non-eater.
I have absolutely no appetite, and I will sometimes go a whole day without eating.
When I realize what I'm doing, I'll make myself eat and only then do I actually realize I'm hungry.

3.  I shop.
Online. In local stores.  Whatever.
Obviously, spending money right now is not the answer to any of my problems.
Yet, I can't stop looking (and sometimes indulging) in things I want or think I need.

4.  I avoid people.
I'm already a difficult person, but I can become more difficult in times of stress.
In order to save some of my friendships, I just hide out as much as possible.
I get kind of lonely, but it's better than having people hate me, I guess.

  1. I'm with you, I'm an emotional non-eater. I also avoid people. I'd rather spend time with my TV, sitting in my PJs.

    I'm sorry you are down!! Wish you were closer so we could have a movie night or something!

    And I swear I'm going to mail you the package I've had for you. It's been crazy around here!!

  2. I... am your long lost twin. For real. I totally screw up my sleep schedule when I'm not working, I don't eat properly and I shop even though I don't have money. It's not good. Maybe try to stick to a schedule, get out and try to socialize... and I know that new job is right around the corner for you!

  3. Well, except for the non-eating, i do all that. I just binge...purge..binge..purge. I am an emotional bulimic? Anyway, shopping, omg! I get stressed because my bills are late so i go...shopping. That makes sense, right? I have slept and not slept more in the last 6 months than my whole life. I am so sorry you are going through this. Sending hugs!

  4. I avoid people. Going out is what I'll try to do to make myself feel better (like go to the mall) and I end up getting so frustrated at all the people everywhere. I do better, in the end, if I just keep to myself.

  5. I do these same things. I am a non-eater for sure. Stress does the opposite to me than it does to most people. And yes, I avoid people. It makes me feel like a bad person sometimes, but I Just can't deal sometimes.

  6. When I'm super stressed I find myself going to bed earlier and earlier. I think I completely wear myself down to the point of exhaustion sometimes! I also definitely shop and stay to myself. I tend to snap a the hubs more...ooops! I understand how you've been feeling (to an extent of course) because I feel like I'm in a similar place! Praying for you!

  7. I'm a stress hibernator. When I get sad or upset or whatever, I just shut down. I want to lie in bed all day and not move. Although, I will leave the house (probably still in my pjs) to hit the drive-thru for something greasy and delicious.

    So sorry that you're going through this AGAIN! You're definitely in my prayers.
