Book series I've started but never finished

Usually, when I get into a book series, I read the whole thing as fast as possible, eager to consume every bit of the ongoing story. This has been true of Twilight, The Hunger Games and every series by Melanie Shawn. Here are a few series for which this has not been true.

Harry Potter

I drug my feet in even reading this to begin with, but then the first two books provided the perfect audio companionship on all the driving I was doing in early 2012.  I love the world of Harry Potter now, and I have finished books 1 through 4 (and watched the corresponding movies).  There are only three books left, but I know they're a time commitment, and I've heard they get darker, so I think that's why I'm hesitant to pick them up again right now.

Divergent

YA dystopia fiction is very popular right now. And I breezed right through the first book in the series.  I was on a wait list at the library for the second one for a long time and when I finally got it, I didn't have time to read it.  I think that's when my appetite for the series waned.  I'll get to it eventually.

The Boleyn/Tudors saga by Philippa Gregory

I read "The Other Boleyn Girl" and was quickly drawn in.  I'm fascinated by the life of the Tudors and Henry VIII.  But for some reason, I haven't picked up any of the other books that followed this one.

+++++

I enjoyed each of these series, but they remain unfinished on my bookshelf.  For now.  I definitely plan to finish them someday.

What book series have you started but left hanging?
Are there some other series I need to add to my to-read list?

  1. Harry Potter... I read the first one, but just couldn't get into the series as a whole.

  2. I have all the HPs and have never read them! I plan to someday. Haha! Divergent doesn't really interest me. I didn't realize there were so many books after The Other Boleyn Girl!

  3. The rest of the HPs are so good, really. You won't regret reading them! (and this from a .... not avid reader)

  4. The Game of Thrones series is the tough one for me. I'm reading the second book now, and it's good, but they are really slow and time consuming books. I'm going to keep chugging along though.

  5. Have you watched The Tudors? I thought I'd love it. I didn't. I haven't read any of these books, but I've read many other books about the same topic and that's why I thought I'd like the show…
I read half of the first Harry Potter years ago and didn't like it. I read half of Divergent and didn't like it. There's a pattern here…

  6. You haven't finished Harry Potter? I didn't even know that was an option. Not that I would have taken that option because I'm in love with the books and have read them each at least three times.

  7. OMG. Seriously, I love ALL of the series you posted about here!! haha I HIGHLY recommend the rest of Philippa Gregory's books about the Tudor court. I own them all. There are actually books that come BEFORE "The Other Boleyn Girl," as well.

I'm obsessed with all of her books about the English Court...including the ones on the Cousins' War (aka War of the Roses).

  9. You seriously have never finished HP?!! Have you seen ALL the movies?! Yes, they get darker but they get SO MUCH BETTER--book 7 is my favorite by far.

Ehh...I think you could do without reading the rest of the Divergent trilogy. Insurgent was good, but Allegiant is just ughhh.
