So Mercury is definitely in retrograde

I know not everyone buys into astrology and the movement of the stars.  I admit, I don't take it too seriously, but sometimes ... it just makes sense.

The other night, during my shift at the library, we had some really odd questions and events.  One woman would not give us her real birth date as she signed up for a library card because she was convinced her identity would be stolen.  Another woman wrote down the time and date of receiving her library card along with the name of the librarian who issued it to her.

I joked that mercury must be in retrograde ... and sure enough, it is.  It started Oct. 4 and will end Oct. 25.

Not sure what that means?

According to Astrology.about.com, this happens three to four times per year, when the planet Mercury slows down, and appears to stop (station) and move backward (retrograde). It's an optical illusion, since there is forward movement, like speeding by a slow-moving train -- as it recedes, it appears to go backwards.

Sometimes you have trouble with computers or other technology when Mercury is in retrograde.  I'm sure all my IT friends hate hearing this.

It's supposed to be a time of reflection and being contemplative.  I'm definitely guilty of this.  I mean, I'm always pretty thoughtful, but I've been reflecting on my life a lot more lately. It hasn't been wholly a good thing either.  There have been some emotional waves as a result.

I've heard some people say it seems like people from their past always come out of the woodwork during this time.  I have experienced that from time to time. Though that isn't true this time. That can be awkward.

People are also warned against signing any new contracts or entering into any concrete plans during this time.  So ... don't buy that house, get engaged, or change jobs, right?  Alright then.  I'll take note of all that.

I'm sure there's more to it, but those are the three things that always stood out the most for me.

Oh ... and we had a full moon last night too.
That makes it even more fun.

What do you think?  Do you buy into these philosophies?

  1. I honestly don't read horoscopes or know much about them. I've been told that I fit a Gemini perfectly though. Lol.

  3. I've never really looked into these things but, Problems with Technology: Check. Reflecting on the past? Check.
Thanks for the information! This is kind of useful to know.

  4. I work in customer services for IT; the people have definitely been asking some strange things lately. I also hear that there is a higher likelihood of travel delays. I can't wait to see how this affects an upcoming trip next week! Did you see the Blood Moon last night?
