Back in the saddle ... er ... gym

[pin]
I have been a huge slacker when it comes to fitness lately. I've probably only worked out a handful of times in the last month.  Terrible.  Just terrible.

The drop-off happened after my half-marathon.  I was probably a little burned out by that point.  The onset of winter doesn't help much either.  The cold temperatures and darkness at five.  It just makes me want to go home and curly up (on the nights I'm not working).  I suppose I should admit that there were also some other things going on in my life (and they're still going on, to be honest) that caused me to lose all motivation.

But I've been feeling gross lately -- emotionally and physically.  And my clothes are starting to fit a little tighter.  So, it's time to get back at it.   I desperately need to get back in a routine.  I know it won't be easy.  Especially this time of year with the holidays coming up and so many festivities.

But I'm going to do it.

And I'll have some help.

Last week, my gym offered a Black Friday special.  Three one-hour personal training sessions for about half the price. When I mentioned that I was intrigued, one of the trainers offered me two additional free sessions if I signed up.  SOLD.

I think I need someone else to kick my butt for a little while until I get the drive back to do it myself.  And I fully believe she is going to kick my butt.  I'm both nervous and excited about what she has planned for our sessions.

Last week's workouts
Friday: Off.
Saturday: Off. Although I did walk a few miles while browsing on Small Business Saturday.
Sunday: Off.
Monday: Off
Tuesday: 2 miles on the treadmill.
Wednesday: Off.
Thursday: Off.

Oh, and I've also decided to do a little running challenge this month.  December has 31 days, so I'll do 31 miles.

Miles to-date: 2

How did or do you get back on track after slacking off?

  1. I know we've talked about it already, but signing up with Drew was one of the best decisions I've made for myself. Knowing that you have someone in your corner, pushing you to do things you didn't think were possible is pretty awesome. You'll be great!

  2. Oh man. I have been terribly, terribly lazy about getting my exercise in. Which is particularly problematic since I have a 10K in 5 weeks...

  3. It's so hard to get back to it after a slump but I'm happy you got your motivation back!! That's so great about the trainer--I'm a little jealous but maybe I will do a session someday.

One piece of advice I always try to tell myself after a slump is that I'm not going to be able to just pick right back up where I left off--I have to work back to that. So where I was running 5 miles before, then I could barely hit 1, that's ok. So take it slow, but I know you've been building it up and that's great!! Keep it up!!!
