Goal challenge: Finding time to organize

Not Entirely Perfect

November's goals focused on organization.  I knew it was going to be a busy month, so I kept my list small.

1.  Do my Mary Kay inventory. -- DONE.
I will so appreciate this when tax time comes around.

2.  Shred junk mail. -- DONE.
Eight months = one trash bag of shredded paper.  I really need to start doing this monthly so it's not such a burden.

As a bonus, I also reorganized my sock drawer.

These were really small tasks, but they really do make a difference.  And they got me started in thinking about purging and reorganizing more in my little apartment.

I'd call November a success!

On to December, for which the theme is simplify.  I had to think about this one a bit (which seems kind of counterproductive to the theme).

Ultimately, I decided that the only thing I could do here was make sure I get plenty of introvert time.  This time of year is so busy with all the parties, work functions, and family gatherings.  I need to make sure I take care of myself, which means I need to schedule some alone time.  I'm setting aside a few days right now that are just for me. Unless someone like Jake Gyllenhaal or Zach Gilford asks me out, I'm going to keep those days completely clear.

What would you do to simplify?

  1. Setting aside me days is crucial at this time of year. Like you, I need time alone to recharge. The more social things going on, the more time I need!

Great job on your organizing goals. I find small projects spark bigger motivation in me.

  2. haha I'm glad you have your Jake Gyllenhal priorities ;) What do you shred? I never shred anything, I just throw it out. Maybe I need to start.

  3. That's a great idea for a simplify goal! One of mine was to set fewer goals, because I tend to go way overboard and December is the worst month to have a giant list of things to do. But maybe as a side note I'll put "me time."

  4. Nice job on the shredding! I keep saving up all my shreddables and weighing the pros and cons of bringing it to a shredding bin (*cough* at work *cough*) or getting a wee little shredder for home. I keep telling myself to save the thirty bucks and bring it to the bin... but.... I have trouble getting the stuff out of the house. Sigh. I might be better off cutting my losses and investing, if only to guarantee I get rid of it ever. I use the word "guarantee" loosely....

  5. Time to relax is important if you're busy. I have a party tonight and one tomorrow (that I'm skipping) and it stresses me out. There is nothing I dread more than forced socializing. I'm working on my Simplify goals for December…which, you're right, does seem counterproductive.

  7. Good start for sure! I'm totally with you on alone time this time of year. We all get such busy social calendars, but with the cold weather and early sunsets, I want to sit and read and watch movies! I am currently making a list of all the things I want to get done after Christmas and it really just boils down to purge, organize, donate.

  8. Yay for organization!

I think if I were to simplify my life some more I would get rid of cable. But I still watch the news and enjoy that and just can't give it up yet, but maybe soon.
