I want to see you be brave

I've seen a bunch of bloggers choosing a word to define their year ahead.  I've never done it before, but I wanted to give it a whirl.

My word?  Initially, I chose FEARLESS.  I have a lot of insecurities I need to let go of, and I need to learn to embrace change and uncertainty instead of running from it.

So, in preparation of this blog post, I looked up my word.  And this is the definition I found.

fear·less
adjective
lacking fear.

I don't think I like my word all of a sudden. I don't know if I can completely eliminate fear from my body and my life, but ... I can figure out how to progress even in the presence of fear.

So, I have decided to shift my focus slightly and go with BRAVE.

brave
adjective
ready to face and endure danger or pain; showing courage.

That's much much better.   That's more of what I was looking for.

Plus, it means I have a theme song!!!

And how will I be braver?

Here are just a few ways:
-- Boldly love and care for people ... even when it's not reciprocated.
-- Ask for help when I need it.
-- Be unapologetic about who I am and what I need.
-- Continue going places solo.  Maybe even do it more often.
-- Flirt with that cute guy. Or all of them.
-- Maybe ask one out.
-- Challenge myself.
-- Speak up when I have something to say.
-- Go after what I want ... even if people try to tell me I don't deserve it.

I love this quote from Emma Watson:

Can you think of other ways I can be brave?
Do you have a theme/word for the year?

  1. Love love love this :) Being brave is great and takes a lot of courage!! You can totally do this, and your list is great. I definitely recommend going places solo or taking trips alone, too. It gives you more confidence and you'll have great memories! And that's one of my favorite songs!

I never really had a word for a year before, but I think if I had to choose one for this year it would be 'Embrace'. I want to embrace living in Michigan, being on my own, and just life in general.

  2. I think this is so great. And I totally agree that "Brave" is a better, more encompassing and positive word than "Fearless." It's going to be an awesome year for you!

  3. I'm rooting for you, Micah.

I've heard the song, but hadn't seen that video before. That's a great video!

  4. I love this! I'm not good at coming up with a word for me, but I like to read other people's words. Haha. I particularly like that you have specific goals and ideas to focus on your word! (And I totally agree that it's awesome that your word has a theme song!!)
