Stuff & Things 2/12

Link up here.

ONE
Nailed it.
I'm pretty sure I'm the only woman not interested in this "Fifty Shades of Grey" hoopla.  I've never wanted to read the books, and the movie holds even less appeal to me.  This article does a great job of summing up why I will be avoiding the book and movie.

TWO
That big pink and red holiday is this weekend, and even though I'm single, I've long since given up moping about Valentine's Day. So what if I don't have a guy in my life?  There are still people who love me, including the most important person -- ME. I have some plans with friends for Saturday and I'm going to spoil myself a little too. Look for my recap on Sunday.

"The Bachelor" has had two contestants who are virgins this season, and the discussions about this have been very interesting to monitor. Some of it has been good and a lot of it has been bad.  But I expected as much. We live in a society where the decision to wait is unpopular and often mocked.

FOUR

I went house hunting with a friend last weekend.  As much as I despise apartment living at times, talking with her has reminded me how stressful it is to buy and own a home.  I'll stick with renting for a while longer.

FIVE

I need to catch up on "Scandal," but the only free time I've had lately is late in the evening.  And that show gives me too much anxiety and stress to watch right before sleep.

SIX
I'm pretty obsessed with the new red lipstick I bought.  Whoever said redheads can't wear red lipstick is a liar.  Firecracker by Mary Kay looks pretty great with my skin tone and eyes.

Speaking of redheads, Ed Sheeran is coming to Des Moines in June. I MUST GO.

What's up with you this week?

  1. Not a fan of 50 shades either. I read part of the first book when a friend loaned her copy to me but it didn't hold my attention at all so I put it down. A disgusting picture if you ask me. And there are some real crazies on the Bachelor this season.

  2. I read the first few chapters of 50 Shades 3 years ago and was appalled by the idea that a person who abuses the English language in that way could have work published. It was SO BAD. One of my FB friends (who is a mom and a teacher) posted that she was going to see it and who was going with her!? I almost threw up.

  3. You are not alone! I have never been interested in 50 Shades - which surprised me because I typically love romance novels but the premise seemed so far beyond what actual BDSM relationships look like - I just couldn't bring myself to even try. I don't care to see the movie either. I have a feeling it's just going to piss me off.

On a much better note - YES ON YOUR LIPSTICK. It really does complement you well.

  4. I am so glad Ashley is gone from the Bachelor she was crazy! And the way she acted on the last episode when he was telling her they were at different points of their lives..clearly she was acting like a little middle schooler!

  5. You are ROCKING that lipstick! I hate that our society is a place that women would be judged for WAITING to have sex. I read the 50 shades of grey books just because in my profession it's good to read the good, the bad, and the ugly. And that was the ugly. I have no desire to see the movie.

  6. I love the lipstick! And the article you link to is very interesting. I won't be seeing the film either, and I didn't read the books after hearing how awful they are. With so much good literature in the world which I'll never hope to have time to read, why waste my time?!

  8. Okay, first, that shade of lipstick is PERFECT on you! LOVE IT!

Second, you are far from being the only woman who doesn't care about 50 Shades. I'm actually embarrassed for anyone who sees that movie. Ugh.

Third, I totally want to see Ed Sheeran. I likes him.

Fourth, the virginity thing on The Bachelor this season has been interesting. I think mostly because of the way each of the women approach it. Becca is like, "Yeah, it's a decision I made for myself and I'm proud of it," while Ashley is all, "I'm a virgin waaaaaaaaah." I don't know. That's just the impression I get. Like Becca did it on purpose while Ashley would rather change her status.

  9. I'm sort of shocked by the amount of women commenting on this post and harshly judging other women for their sexual fantasies related to 50 Shades. Someone almost threw up bc another women wanted to go see the movie? Wow.
I read the article, and understand that there is belief that it perpetuates an emotionally abusive relationship. I think the WHOLE book is supposed to be a sexual fantasy of submissiveness, in which case, I don't see an issue with it when you look at it as a sexual fantasy rather than an actual excuse for a relationship. I also disagreed with the author that 50 Shades was marketed toward teenagers. I definitely thought that it has been more marketed toward women to spice up their bedroom. And if teenagers are reading this, then it's the parent responsibility to be monitoring their children's lit and explaining that this is simply smut reading. Again, if you're going to categorize 50 Shades as literature then it's like saying Ron Jeremy is an Oscar-winning actor.. My two cents. And I am so glad that we can have a respectful and passionate disagreement : ) I don't even care for the book! I am just really upset by the double-standard held to men and women's sexual fantasies..

  10. I love Ed! And your lipstick. Rock on both of you red heads.

I think those who want to read and see Fifty Shades should, and those that don't, shouldn't. I like to read books that are talked about so I can give my opinion. The Fifty Shades books were really fast reads because they lacked substance and were repetetive, but difficult in that the writing and grammar...eesh. I found them more offensive than the subject matter. That being said, I don't look down on people who liked them. It just means we have different tastes.

  11. LOVE that lipstick. I went red for a summer and I loved it. Not quite the same as being an actual redhead though. Sigh. Some of us are just brunette-y and there's nothing we can do about it. Also, that kitty cat gif?! Cuteness. :)

  12. LOL! I can't agree more with the 50 shades stuff. I tried so hard to read the first book because so many of my friends were so insane over it and the writing was just so bad.
You prove redheads can wear red lipstick. I have never felt comfy in it and my husband is always wanting me to wear it and I can never find a shade i like. I love that color on you!

  13. I am not interested in 50 Shades of Grey either. I haven't read them and I don't plan to. I truthfully don't have a major "soap box-type" reason or anything. I'm just not interested. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one.
