Weekend of freedom

Thanks to America's big holiday, I actually got to have a weekend. Meaning, I had two consecutive days off.  I hardly knew what to do with myself. But I figured it out.

Thursday, my office closed at 1 p.m.  It also happened to be my last day at that job, so I hit the nearest patio for drinks with a few co-workers.  And I do mean a few.  I thought I had spread the word about the gathering, but only three joined me.  The others?  Word has it they went to a different bar.  Hrmph.  I was a little disappointed -- especially because three people who didn't come had specifically asked what I was doing for my last day and said they wanted to come.  But ... oh well.  I'm out of there now, so ... whatever.

That evening, Ali, Savannah, and I had pizza and craft beer at my place while watching "Magic Mike." This was just a warm-up for a 10 p.m. showing of "Magic Mike XXL" in XM -- a larger screen.  I have to say I really enjoyed the movie.  It was so much better than the first one.  Also, Matt Bomer = swoon!!

Friday, I had planned to hang out at home all day and read and do laundry, but those plans changed. Ali urged me to join her for lunch with some other people from my new job.  I thought it'd be nice to meet some of them, so I went.

After lunch, I came home and did get some quiet time before heading to a patio downtown with Savannah.  Ali and her group had been barhopping all afternoon, and they met up with us until it was time to head to the ballpark.

Toasting to patio beers and friendship.

The Rangers' farm team (the Round Rock Express) was in town, so I spent a few extra bucks for good seats.  I got to see a Joey Gallo monster home run and an Express win not to mention some great fireworks.  Great evening all around!

Go Express!!
A night at the ballpark is my favorite night.

Post-game fireworks!

It ended up being a later night than planned, so getting out of bed early (read: 8 a.m.) on Saturday was rough. But I really wanted to go to Fit Fusion (dance fitness) class.  It was so worth it.  The class was a blast, and I felt so good when it was done.  When I was cleaned up, I drove to Savannah's place to watch some 'Merica movies ("The Sandlot" and "Captain America") before more people showed up for the evening festivities.  Beer, food, and Cards Against Humanity were the main ingredients for our celebration.

Hooray freedom!

Sunday, I worked a shift at the library and spent the rest of the day preparing for my first day at my new job.  That was yesterday.  So far, I really love it.  The people are all so nice, and the company's atmosphere is fantastic.  I'm looking forward to getting even more settled in.
