Comfort TV shows and movies

Last week, Kristin shared a list of shows she puts on when she wants familiarity so she can do other things without having to play close attention. I tend to use music for most of those situations, but occasionally I want a favorite show on so I can look up every now and then but I don't have to give it my full focus.

But if we're talking comfort entertainment (kind of like comfort food but with fewer calories),  I want to take my list a little further. Here are some things I watch when I've had a bad day/week:

"Friends"
I'm so glad this is on Netflix now, so I can just choose the episode I'm in the mood for.
This time of year, I'm seeking out the Thanksgiving ones.

"Pitch Perfect"
Great musical numbers, and I adore the cast. This flick never fails to cheer me up.
I like the sequel enough, but nothing beats the first one for me.

"Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist"
I'm not entirely sure why, but this movie has been one of my go-to selections for a long time.

"Friends With Kids"
This one is probably on the list mainly because of Adam Scott.
It's also one of the most unconventional love stories I've ever seen, and that's why I like it.

"27 Dresses"
The "Bennie and the Jets" scene makes me smile. Every. Time.

"Friday Night Lights"
A little Matt Saracen/Zach Gilford is always good for this girl.

What are your comfort movies and TV shows?

  2. Friends ALWAYS puts me in a good mood! I also run to Gilmore Girls and Boy Meets World when I need some down time!

  3. Definitely Friends. Forever and always. I also love Psych and The Office for a good pick me up. If I want to wallow a bit, I go with Gilmore Girls.

  4. The Office is definitely one of my comfort TV shows...I'm currently re-watching it from the beginning for the third time this year.

  5. Thanks for the shout-out! And I love ALL of these shows/movies so much. I've seen all of them more than once.
And the Thanksgiving episodes of Friends are the best ones. I'll put that on my weekend to-do list.

  6. Yes to ALL THE FRIENDS! I can still watch multiple episodes every single day and not get sick of it. Of course, it helps that it was on for 10 years and was actually good for all of those 10 years, so it doesn't ever feel like I JUST saw this one!

I made Chris turn on the Brad Pitt episode the other night. Even he was laughing super hard and he's not a big fan of the show.

  7. I LOVE 27 dresses! It used to be on our DVR (before we briefly cancelled our service), and it was one of my "sleeping movies". I would put it on to listen to while I went to sleep! Friends is also a great one for background and just for light hearted binging. Haha

  8. I love Friends with Kids so much! I prefer realistic over fluffy movies any day. I haven't seen Nick & Norah's since it came out in the theater, but need to rewatch it because it started my love affair with Ari Graynor. My comfort shows are Friends, Bev Hills 90210, Gilmore Girls, and SATC. My movies are Pitch Perfect, Empire Records, The Family Stone, Speed, Mean Girls, and The Wedding Planner.
