Stuff & Things 12/10

:: Last night, I wrote the last words in my National Novel Writing Month project. That's right, the story is done. I started it at midnight on Nov. 1, and finished it at 11 p.m. on Dec. 9. There will be plenty of editing and re-writing in my future, but for now, I think it's time to let my characters rest. I'm sure going to miss them. Here's the final word/page tally:

:: Today is a big gameday here in my state. The Iowa State Cyclone and Iowa Hawkeye men's basketball teams face-off in the annual battle for rivalry bragging rights. Go Cyclones!!
Georges Niang is my favorite Cyclone player.

:: The other night, I went down a Broadway shows rabbit hole on YouTube. It was Christina's fault. She sent me links to watch my beloved Jake Gyllenhaal in "Little Shop of Horrors." It was so great. He can actually sing a little. And, of course, it made me even more anxious to go to NYC. There are so many shows I want to see right now -- "Hamilton," "Waitress," and, of course, the revival of "Spring Awakening," which actually only has a few more weeks. Sniff sniff.
My signed playbill from the touring cast of "Spring Awakening."

:: Last weekend, a friend told me "Swans Crossing" was on Hulu. I remember watching this show in my early teen years, so I had to look it up. Oh man. The acting and writing is painfully bad, but Shane McDermott was dreamy. (Apparently he's a realtor in Galveston, TX, now, so go look him up if you're in the market for a Galveston home.)

:: Yesterday afternoon, the Iowa Wild posted that several players would be taking shifts at the Salvation Army bell at a local grocery store during the evening. It just so happens that the store is on my way from work to the gym.  And my favorite player was going to be there at the most perfect time. The universe was clearly calling to me.  I was nervous, but I went, and it was fantastic. I think my caption on Instagram says it all.  (My friend's comment is solid too.)

Is it too late to make that photo my Christmas card?

  5. I'm a (HUGE) fan of Gyllenhaal. My wife can verify this. I might just have to follow you down that rabbit hole.

The picture on Instagram is great! I'm glad the stars aligned just right so you could have that picture.

  7. Swan's Crossing??? I forgot that show ever existed! We used to watch it just to laugh at how awful it was! (Although we all secretly got totally hooked on it.)
