Music Monday: Misheard lyrics edition

Do you remember when we used to buy actual physical CDs? (Or cassettes if you're as old as I am.)  I remember coming home with a new album and poring over the lyrics in the booklet, trying to learn all the words.  These days, you can often find the lyrics on the internet, but there is still room for misinterpretation.

Here are a few instances of lyrics I've misheard:

One Republic - Good Life
What the lyrics really are:
Woke up in London yesterday
Found myself in the city near Piccadilly
Don't really know how I got here
I got some pictures on my phone

What I heard:
Woke up in London yesterday
Found myself in the city near Piccadilly
Don't really know how I got here
I got some bitches on my phone

\\\\////

Shawn Mendes - Stitches
What the lyrics really are:
You watch me bleed until I can't breathe
Shaking, falling onto my knees

What I heard:
You watch me bleed until I can't breathe
Shaking, falling on tamales

\\\\////

Maroon 5 - Sugar
What the lyrics really are:
Your sugar
Yes, please

What I heard:
Your sugar
Yasmine

\\\\////

One Direction - Drag Me Down
What the lyrics really are:
If I didn't have you there would be nothing left
The shell of a man who could never be his best

What I heard:
If I didn't have you there would be nothing left
The shell of a man who could never pay his bets

Alright. Make me feel better. Tell me about lyrics you didn't hear right at first.

  1. Haha! So funny! I mishear lyrics all the time, and I totally remember getting CDs and Cassette tapes. I loved that the lyrics were printed in them so I could learn the songs faster to sing along! I WISH I could think of some examples right now, but I'm drawing a blank!

  2. I have a LOT of misheard lyrics! I can't think of any right now but there are a couple of entire songs I don't even know the real words to.

  3. I am one of the many who thought T. Swift was singing about "lonely Starbucks lovers."
