Stuff & Things (I need to stop doing) 4/7

I have some really bad habits I need to quit or at least do less of. Some are annoying and some are downright harmful to my health in one way or another.

Picking at my nails.
My hands look terrible. Part of it is due to all the time I spend washing glasses at the brewery. And part of it is just that I don't take very good care of them.

\\\\////

Leaving dirty dishes in the sink and clean clothes in the hamper for days.
It seriously takes five minutes or less to wash the dishes I use. Why do I put it off? Maybe because I'm sick of washing dishes after a few shifts at the brewery? Similarly, it doesn't take that long to put laundry away, and it's less wrinkly if I do it immediately.

\\\\////

Justifying my social media posts.
Lately, I've found myself apologizing for posting too much about my writing, a concert I went to, or the return of baseball. I mean, it's my Facebook/Twitter/Instagram, and these are things I love and am excited about. If that annoys people, it's not my problem, right?

\\\\////

Making self-deprecating or self-degrading remarks.
I seem to believe that if I say mean things about myself (joking or otherwise), I'll be beating other people to the punch. Surely, they're thinking those things, so maybe if I say it first, it'll hurt me less. It's not working out so great. I actually think it's worse.

\\\\////

Believing guys are out of my league.
I can't count the number of guys I've crushed on in my past but I never even considered approaching them or showing interest. Why? Because they're so attractive and I'm just average. I can't imagine them being attracted to me or even wanting to be seen with me.

\\\\////

I honestly wish it was as easy as saying I'm just going to stop doing these things. But it's not. Feel free to issue some advice on how to kick any of them.

  1. You are not average! You are a gem. You have the most beautiful eyes. I was looking at them in a picture you posted on FB. Besides, no ginger is ever average!

  2. I completely agree about apologizing about what you post on your own social media platforms. If people don't like it or are annoyed, it's not that hard for them to unfriend or unfollow you. And if that's the case, who wanted them anyway!? ;)

  3. You are definitely not average! These guys are NOT out of your league. You are awesome and deserve to be with someone who knows it.

I know what you mean about social media. Don't apologize! Say what you want!

  4. Preach! So many bad habits I need to stop as well this yr. :/

Btw Micah I am digging your blog, I'm trying to get back into blogging as well for my readers. :) Do you mind if I ask how you put the social media icons on your blog? I haven't been able to find them under the gadgets of blogspot. Thanks girl!

  5. I so laughed out loud when I read your sentence about the dirty dishes in the sink and the clean clothes in the dryer! That is a reoccurring event in my house, unfortunately, and I even have a dishwasher! But, you see, that adds another element to the mix - putting the clean dishes away. Laundry, dishes...blah! It's all a vicious cycle! LOL!

It's been a while since I was out in the dating world, but I do remember feeling as you described. I remember a guy coming to my apartment to pick me up for a blind date. I watched him park in the lot and walk in to the building from a window. I remember thinking, when I saw him for the first time, "Damn, you are just way too pretty..." I felt as if I wasn't good enough. From someone who has been there, I know how hard it is to overcome that feeling. Keep trying, keep putting yourself out there, and believe that you are worthwhile. You must keep trying. Like hockey great Wayne Gretzky said, "You miss 100% of the shots you do not take." Best wishes.

  6. My nails and hands are always a mess too. I guess that's a sign of hard work? Maybe?
