Stuff & Things 1/5

:: First of all, happy new year! 2017 is off to a pretty great start for me. If we're connected on any form of social media, you might have seen that I got engaged on New Year's Eve. Since he proposed right after midnight, I suppose it was technically New Year's Day. Either way, I'm very excited about this new adventure. Also, if you will indulge me, I'll be sharing our story over the next few weeks, starting tomorrow.

::  Sean and I are both planners, so we have already decided a lot of things about our wedding. Now comes the task of fitting it into a budget. We're paying for it ourselves, and I'm not taking out a loan or going broke for this one day. Advice is welcome.

:: I have done some sort of workout every day so far this year. I hope I can keep up this momentum.

:: After a whole year of doing at least one race a month, I'm feeling a little antsy and a little bit like I'm slacking on running. I'm cutting back on races (to save money), but am hoping to find a local running group to join once a month or so. In the meantime, I'm feeling restless. I hate the treadmill. Any advice for keeping up with winter running?

:: I've started watching this season of "The Bachelor," but I don't know if I'll keep up consistently. Is anyone else watching? Any early front-runners?

:: And here's your friendly reminder that there's new Ed Sheeran music arriving tomorrow. I cannot wait.

What's up with you this week?

  1. I don't remember if I commented on your Instagram photo, so CONGRATULATIONS!! That is SUCH exciting news!
Scott and I pretty much paid for our wedding ourselves, too. My parents wanted to help, but he was pretty stubborn then about accepting help from others. So, I was able to get my mom to slip me some money for a few things here and there! haha
Some advice: research vendors in your area for the best prices (that may seem self-explanatory, but it may help you decide if there are areas where you want to splurge and areas where you cut back). I am not a big flower person. So we saved money there. My girls carried single roses, and I had a small, simple bouquet. I had no flowers for decoration. We were also pretty minimalist as far as decorating the church was concerned: I had nothing. haha Our reception venue was our splurge and was fancy enough, so I just had some floating candles for centerpieces. The vases were from the venue, and all I had to do was buy the candles. I can share lots more thoughts, but I won't write a whole book here! :)

  2. We paid for our wedding ourselves too (eh, maybe except for the food) but my advice is to go with your gut and don't get overwhelmed with too many options. I bought the first dress I tried on and I think I only tried on 3. Quick decisions lead you to enjoy the experience more!
    Enjoy!

  4. I was JUST on Itunes and I meant to listen to Ed Sheeran. Thanks for the reminder; I see he has two songs posted! I love Ed. :)

Congrats on the engagement! That's so exciting. I hope you find ways to have the best wedding that doesn't break the bank. :)

  5. I didn't stress about my wedding, probably because I was so stressed about selling the house and buying a new one. I wasn't worried about much and everything worked out perfectly. I did very simple white flowers which I ordered from Sam's and they were perfect. We got married at my parents house so the venue was free. I wanted small. I made the centerpieces myself. My parents paid for the food and drink and my minister was a friend. Seriously the most expensive part of our wedding was the dress and the rings.
You know what? It was perfect and at least 3 people told me it was the best wedding they had ever been to. Do you know what I remember most? How happy I was and how happy he was. I think of you two relax and are just happy and have fun it's contagious for your guests. I know that's not totally amazing advice but it's from the heart.
So very happy for you both. :)
