WLJ: Curing Cravings

The best part about Weight Watchers is that I can literally eat anything I want.  In moderation, of course.  But that's the key to everything.

I don't keep a lot of junk food in my house (although I cannot confirm or deny that there is a box of Girl Scout Thin Mints in my freezer).  This is the key for me --- because if it's not readily available, I'm not likely to indulge in it.

But sometimes I want to indulge, and I don't have enough daily or weekly points available for whatever my body thinks it'll die without.  I've been working to find lower point fixes.  Here are some of the things I keep around for various cravings.

WHEN I WANT SOMETHING SWEET ...
Sugar-free Jell-O pudding -- I especially love the double chocolate flavor.
Special K 90 calorie bars -- They seriously taste like rice krispie treats.
Fruit -- Lately, it's been strawberries, but watermelon works too.

WHEN I WANT SOMETHING SALTY ...
Special K Cracker Chips -- You can eat 27 of them for 3 WW points.  And 27 is a lot.
100 calorie bags of popcorn -- I will eat the whole bag, so I make sure it's only a single serving. Most bags are THREE servings.

WHEN I WANT FAST FOOD ...
Jennie-O Turkey Burgers -- I keep these around home when I'm craving a burger.

WHEN I JUST WANT SOMETHING TO CRUNCH ON ...
Baby carrots -- I go through about 2 lbs. of these every week. Insane, right?

WHEN I WANT A POP ...
Juice + tonic water -- I get the fizz I'm looking for and a little flavor too.
Iced tea -- My favorite favorite thing in the summer, especially iced green tea.

I also always keep gum in my purse.  Right now, I'm loving the Extra Dessert Delights in Root Beer Float.

What are some of your tricks for beating cravings?
Seriously ... I need suggestions.
I will likely get bored of the above mentioned foods before long.

Weight-loss goal: 40 lbs.
This week's progress: +/- 0 lbs.
Progress to date: -25 lbs.
Non-scale victory: I was at my parents' house all weekend, which for me often means a lot of relaxing and downtime.  I talked my dad into going for a two-and-a-half mile walk on Saturday though.  It was good to get outside, and I got my steps in for the day.

  1. Thanks for the great snack tips! I am trying so hard to loose a few lbs! I'm counting calories which you know is not fun! I downloaded this app called lose it. It is the most amazing app you put in what you eat and it stores all the calories for you! There is even a place where you can scan the bar code and it will figure the calories for you too.. I'm eating no more than 1,200 calories a day and it is actually working for me!! Good luck with your diet. I hear it is a good one to do.

  2. I like trader joe's dark chocolate almonds. About 3 or 4 of them (2 points?) are enough to satisfy the sweet tooth because they're so rich.
