WLJ: Back to running

I got a little lazy on my workouts last week.  The holiday, the hot weather and no classes at my gym contributed to me being completely unmotivated.  I made myself play my Wii Fit a few days, and I did my arm workout (which is killer, by the way), but other than that, I pretty much didn't work out at all. Which made me feel sluggish and gross.

Time to get back on it this week.  I went for a run last night for the first time in almost two weeks.  It felt really good.  Until about the two-mile mark when I started having pain up by my shoulder blade.  I think the problem is that I hold my phone to use the MapMyRun app, and I'm sure this causes tension through my arm.  I'm looking into getting an armband for my phone to see if this gets better.

My running shoes are nearing the end of their life too.  We've had some good times together, but I'll be looking to replace them in the coming months.  I'm pretty excited about that.  I love new shoes.

Last week, I discovered a new tool for picking out music for my run.  On jog.fm, you can put in your pace (or goal pace, in my case) and it will tell you which songs are good for that pace.  My goal is a ten-minute mile, so that's what I put in and it gave me about 17 pages of songs, many of which I already owned.  I loaded them onto my iPod, and I definitely think they helped.  I'm not running a ten-minute mile yet, but I felt like I was able to keep a steadier pace, and I will get better.  I'll definitely be using jog.fm again.

Given my lazy week, the scale surprised me quite a bit this morning.  I was pretty good about my food choices and really only indulged on the 4th of July (I could not say "no" to a friend's homemade triple peanut butter ice cream sandwich, nor did I want to).  So I guess it just goes to show that food choices play a huge role in this journey as well.  Pushing on!!

Weight-loss goal: 40 lbs.
This week's progress: -2.2 lbs.
Progress to date: -30 lbs.
Non-scale victory: I'm really working to stop negative self-talk and thoughts, and I feel like I've made a lot of progress in that arena.  Cutting negative and toxic people out of my life has helped a lot. I'm a good friend, and I'm done bestowing that on people who don't deserve it.

  1. Congrats on the weight lost! The holiday reallllly screwed me up too, as they decided to cancel (cancel!) all the classes at my one gym last week. So I only worked out 3 times last week, as opposed to 6.
I love that you have non-scale victories too :)

  2. I'm currently banned from running (doc's orders) but when I do get to start again I'm totally going to check out jog.fm - what a cool idea!
