WLJ: Good food, good mood ... and 25!!

I received some really good feedback (in a variety of venues) after last week's post. I got some recipe and food suggestions that helped me a lot, and I'm looking forward to trying some new foods.

I can safely say I'm back on track, planning my meals and being good about my points.  I even splurged on a Dairy Queen blizzard over the weekend (the mini ones are only 7-8 points) and a glass of wine during "The Bachelorette" last night, and still did really well.

I'm already feeling more like myself.  I have a lot more energy, I'm not as tired and I'm not as irritable. It's amazing how much of a difference eating right makes.

When I eat garbage, I feel like garbage.

When I eat well, I feel well.

Lesson learned.

Again.

I'm sure it won't be the last time I get off track, but as long as I don't give up, I'll be fine.

I've also found that by being active, I'm less inclined to put junk in my body.  It's almost as if I don't want to undo all the hard work I've done.  On the days, I work out, I tend to crave fruits and vegetables. After my run last night, all I wanted was fresh watermelon.  On the days I don't, I want sweets and carbs.  It's a good thing I don't keep junk in the house because that's all I wanted on Sunday.

This is all just another reason it's important for me to be active more days than not.  I know those rest days are necessary, but more than two a week is not good for me -- physically or emotionally.

Perhaps the biggest thing I've learned on this journey is to pay attention to my body.  I listen to what it needs and wants and do my best to address it.  I don't always get it right, but I'm still learning.  And that's what's important.

And I'm officially down 25 lbs.  Exactly 25.  Only 15 to go until I reach my goal.  I know it'll be hard work -- probably harder than the first 25 -- but I'm willing to do it.  I'm almost there.

Weight-loss goal: 40 lbs.
This week's progress: -2.2 lbs.
Progress to date: -25 lbs.
Non-scale victory: I tried a new class last week called Cardio Core.  It was a killer.  In the best way.  I love the way I feel after a good workout.  I also tried brussel sprouts for the first time.  They were frozen and I steamed them, and they weren't all that bad.  I've heard I need to try roasting fresh ones though, so that's next on my list.

  1. Yay Micah!! And yes on the less likely to put crap into your body when you workout hard. The longer you run, the more that holds true. My body seriously rejects a lot of bad foods now, which is good but sometimes sad. I really like pizza and my body does not :-/
